jardim botânico house

Ajuda, Lisboa | Portugal

Type: family house

Client: private

Category: bioclimatic

Year: 2006 – 2012

Area: 828 m2

Near the Botanical Garden in Ajuda on a traditional part of this neighbourhood there used to be an old bakery. The architectural project for this family house blends the existing chimney and building façade with new and contemporary volumes. The building is divided in three volumes so it can fit the surrounding fabric. The vertical windows, tilted rooftops, lioz (limestone) and ceramic tiles -azulejos – are combined with more modern materials and wide interior areas.

This is an inclusive accessible design house with an interior garden and a bioclimatic project concerning the construction methods, the materials employed and the solutions adopted such as rainwater harvesting system, heating and energy production.
